Phare de Chassiron
Charente Maritime, Ile d'Oléron
The Chassiron lighthouse is located at the extreme north of the island of Oléron, in Charente Maritime, hence its nickname "point of the end of the world". It allows sailors to enter the Pertuis d'Antioche without difficulty, avoiding the many reefs that have caused so many shipwrecks.
You will easily recognize it thanks to its distinctive black and white bands, to differentiate it from its neighbour, the Baleines lighthouse. Since 2007, you can reach its summit, 46 meters high, by taking its 224 steps and discover a splendid view of the entire northern half of the island.
On a beautiful sunny day, you will have the chance to see the Rochelaise coast, the island of Aix, the island of Ré or the famous Fort Boyard! After having been amazed, continue your visit by discovering the museum "the people of the coast between land and sea" which will allow you to deepen your knowledge of the habits and customs of the inhabitants. Finally, end your visit with a walk in its garden in a particular shape: the wind rose!
