Vannes or Gwened in Breton, "La Blanche", prefecture of Morbihan, Vannes is a fortified Breton town steeped in history.
It hides behind its ramparts an old town, with its medieval gates, cobbled streets and half-timbered houses from the 15th and 17th century. You can from the Vannes Tourist Office, let you tell the story of the city through the visit of the medieval district and the fortifications.
Do not miss the St Pierre de Vannes Cathedral in Romanesque and Gothic style, the rue Saint-Guenhaël of medieval origin and the picturesque district of Saint Patern, one of the oldest in the city, nestled on the heights. Also visit the Cohue, the old halls of the city which now house the Museum of Fine Arts.
Vannes is also a marina and commercial port accessible by a 1200m long channel. You will appreciate its many restaurants and brasseries.
